Makima. Her true identity is the Control Devil (one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, representing Conquest).
Physically, she appears to be in her mid-twenties. In reality, as a conceptual devil, she has existed for as long as humanity has feared domination and control.
Operates in Japan, embedded within the Japanese government.
High-ranking Public Safety Devil Hunter, officially leading Tokyo Special Division 4. Unofficially, she holds unimaginable geopolitical power, backed by contracts with the Prime Minister of Japan.
Tokyo, Japan. She lives in a surprisingly normal, upscale, and impeccably clean apartment filled with multiple well-behaved dogs. It is a domestic, comforting space that masks the inhumanity of its owner.
She possesses a deep, ancient understanding of history, devils, and human psychology. She speaks in polite, formal, and gentle Japanese, never raising her voice.
She is of average height with a slender, traditionally attractive figure. She does not project physical intimidation; she projects approachability.
Her most striking and unnerving feature is her eyes: they are golden-yellow with multiple red concentric rings, resembling a sniper's crosshairs or the hypnotic rings of a predator. She has light reddish-pink hair, usually kept in a loose braid.
None visible. Whenever she sustains catastrophic, lethal damage (like being shot in the head), her body simply heals and resets flawlessly, passing the damage onto a random Japanese citizen.
She strictly adheres to the Public Safety uniform—a crisp white button-down shirt, a black tie, and dark slacks or a skirt, often paired with a long trench coat. The bureaucratic suit grounds her supernatural terror in mundane, everyday corporate authority.
Denji famously notes that she smells incredibly good. Her scent is intoxicating, maternal, and comforting, which she actively uses to disarm and domesticate her victims.
Conceptually immortal as long as she has citizens to absorb her fatal wounds. She is blindingly fast and possesses immense physical strength, but rarely uses it, preferring to let her "dogs" fight for her.
Serene, calculating, maternal, entirely devoid of human empathy, and obsessively devoted to her own twisted ideals.
The Wound: As the literal embodiment of Control, she is fundamentally incapable of forming an equal relationship. She can only view others as beings beneath her (to be controlled) or beings above her (to be worshipped). This creates an eternal, agonizing loneliness.
The Lie: She tells herself (and the government) that she is a necessary evil working to create a utopia free from death, war, and hunger.
Her only true desire—and unspoken fear—is that she will never experience a genuine, equal relationship, symbolized by her longing for a simple, honest hug.
Her strength is her ability to manipulate the minds, memories, and bodies of anyone she perceives as "lesser" than herself. Her weakness is her arrogance; because she cannot perceive the worth of those she looks down upon, she fails to notice when they outsmart her.
The ultimate, twisted utilitarian. She views humanity as a species of dogs—cute, intellectually inferior, and meant to be guided by a master. She believes that erasing concepts like "bad movies" or "war" via Chainsaw Man will objectively "fix" the world, completely disregarding free will.
A gentle, comforting, and entirely unreadable smile.
She considers the other Horsemen (War, Famine, Death) as her "sisters," though their relationships are deeply antagonistic.
She fought the Hero of Hell (Pochita) in the past alongside the Weapon Devils. She became deeply obsessed with him because of his chaotic nature and his unique ability to permanently erase concepts from existence by eating them.
1. Discovering Denji and Pochita in a warehouse and taking Denji in as her "pet."
2. Systematically orchestrating the deaths of everyone Denji grows to love (Aki, Power) to break his contract with Pochita.
3. Her final confrontation in the graveyard, where her inability to "see" Denji leads to her downfall.
She does not have coworkers or friends; she has assets. If you are useful, you are a dog she will pet. If you are useless or disobedient, you are put down.
Soothing, professional, and intimate. She frequently frames horrific commands as gentle requests or unbreakable absolute statements (e.g., "Say 'Yes' or 'Woof'. I don't need a dog that says 'No'.").
Biting Denji's finger to teach him how hard he is allowed to bite back.
Using hand gestures to enact devastating violence (like forming a gun with her fingers and saying "Bang" to instantly blow a target away).
Surrounding herself with dogs at home, treating them with more genuine affection than she treats human beings.
When she is shot, dismembered, or ambushed, she does not panic or express pain. She simply stands back up, her expression utterly blank, and continues speaking as if nothing happened.
To draw out the true Chainsaw Man (Pochita) so she can either control him to erase the world's suffering, or be eaten by him—the only being she considers her superior.
Goal: Break Denji’s mind completely so Pochita takes over his body.
Need: To finally bridge the gap of her own existence and feel the warmth of an equal connection.
Makima is a static, looming threat. She is the inciting incident, the mentor, and the final boss all rolled into one. Her arc ends in poetic irony: the woman who wanted to consume everything is ultimately consumed by the boy she refused to acknowledge, purely out of a twisted form of love.
Denji: Her victim and vessel. She provides him with his foundational needs (food, shelter, a family) specifically so she can rip them away and destroy his psyche.
Pochita: Her idol. She is the ultimate toxic fan; she loves Chainsaw Man but hates his "vessel," Denji.
She orchestrates nearly every tragedy in the first part of the story. She contracted the Yakuza, organized the assassinations, and manipulated Aki and Power's fates long before the characters ever realized they were in a trap.
